The Details Matter

Bathroom Materials & Products We Use

Waterproofing

Every wet-area job is waterproofed to AS 3740-2021, read alongside NCC Part F2D2. That means the shower membrane extends at least 1800mm up the walls and 150mm beyond the shower screen, the shower floor falls to the drain at a minimum of 1:100, the bathroom floor is waterproofed with a 150mm upstand at every wall, and the membrane runs at least 40mm past the doorway. We use trade-grade membrane systems from the Ardex/Davco tier.

Tapware & Fixtures

For the premium tier we go through Bunnings' Caroma Luna collection — their premium bathroom line, in chrome or brushed nickel, with a 20-year warranty on tapware and toilets (5 years on accessories).

Tiling

Floor and wall tiling to suit the space and budget — from large-format porcelain through to feature tiles for a statement wall or niche.

The Honest Answer

Bathroom Renovation Pricing in Wollongong — What Affects the Cost

There's no honest single number — here's what actually moves the price.

Scope — fixture refresh vs. full strip-out are genuinely different jobs

Size — a small ensuite still needs every trade (waterproofer, tiler, plumber) to show up, so it doesn't scale down as much as people expect

Layout changes — moving plumbing adds real cost; keeping the existing layout keeps the budget down

Fixture and tile quality — entry-level through to premium ranges

Questions

Bathroom Renovation FAQs

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in the Illawarra?+

As a rough guide: a fixture/tiling refresh typically runs $10,000–$18,000, a mid-range full strip-out $18,000–$30,000, and a high-end renovation $30,000–$50,000+. Size matters less than people expect — even a small bathroom needs every trade to attend. Use our instant estimate tool below for a number closer to your job.

Why does waterproofing matter so much?+

Because it's the one part of a bathroom renovation you can't see or fix cheaply once it's wrong. A failed membrane means water tracking into walls and subfloors. Every wet area we work on is waterproofed to AS 3740 and flood-tested before tiling.

Can I renovate just the ensuite, or does it need to match the main bathroom?+

Either — plenty of people do the ensuite first and the main bathroom later, depending on budget and which one gets more daily use.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?+

A fixture refresh can be done in days. A full strip-out typically takes 2–5 weeks depending on scope, waterproofing cure times, and any layout changes.

Do you move plumbing if I want to change the layout?+

Yes, though it adds cost and time compared with keeping fixtures in their existing positions — we'll talk through the trade-off during your quote.
